Brief Services Overview

Votech Rehab LLC is an assistive technology service provider which helps individuals with disabilities choose, test, acquire and appropriately use assistive technology to help them participate in activities of daily living, employment and education.  Services may include but not limited to: rehabilitation engineering, assistive technology services, and assistive technology devices.

An Assistive Technology Device is defined as: “Any item, piece of equipment, or product system, whether required commercially off the shelf, modified or customized, that is used to increase, maintain, or improve functional capacities of individuals with disabilities.” (Taken from the Technology Related assistance for Individuals with Disabilities Act of 1988)

Votech Rehab prepares each customer to effectively use assistive technology in employment or in educational settings after high school. Assistive technology training can be provided in the customer’s home, workplace or in a regional Votech Rehab office.

There are numerous methodologies relating to assistive technology; its selection and implementation. Votech Rehab incorporates and prioritizes the individualized approach; a process which matches the person to the technology. This reduces the chances abandonment and/or replacement of assistive technology; saving the customer and service provider valuable time, money and resources.

Before recommending specific assistive technology, equipment or training; Votech Rehab will conduct a baseline assessment to determine customer’s skills, knowledge, and evaluate the environment in which the technology would be utilized, if appropriate.  This baseline assessment will allow Votech Rehab to design an applicable and effective schedule before any training begins.

Once training has been completed; a post-training assessment will be conducted to evaluate the customer’s assistive technology skills, and determine the effectiveness of their training. Further, and most importantly, this will verify the customer’s training objectives and goals were completed to their satisfaction. The post-training assessment will be submitted to the customer’s counselor or funding source (if any) for final review and approval.

Votech Rehab’s core purpose is to ‘Focus on the Ability, Not the Disability’ of each individual we serve. We look forward to meeting with you, your staff and any customer that desires focused, personal support from a service provider that cares about their individual goals and success.

Congratulations to J.C. of Mooresville!

She has completed the training program from Votech Rehab and is now working with a job coach to find full-time employment.

Low-Tech = Low Cost

Assistive technology is not always high-tech, nor is it always expensive. There are great low-tech items available at no or low cost, to help you accomplish everyday tasks.

Look around your home, or take a trip to your local hardware store. Use your imagination, or the imagination of those around you to come up with simple solutions to common accessibility barriers.
